Got a doll w/only one noticeable name/symbol that looks like a circle & an upside down jester hat, Help Any1??
The doll looks like an antique. There are no other names or symbols on it. It is a girl doll with brown hair and shoes and a green dress. Looks like porcellan upper body and cloth lower body. Thats all the info I have. Hope someone can reconize the symbol that is on the back of the porcellan upper body. It looks like a small circle with a Jester/Clown hat under the circle which is upside down.
It could just be random art.

why do people in old pictures look so stiff and their eyes look so prominent and glazed over?
I have noticed that whenever I see old black and white pictures of people like from the 19th/early 20th century, they always seem to be in a stiff, rigid, almost strict pose, often not even smiling, and their eyes always appear so bright and glazed over. I have noticed this even in babies who are pictured with their families, even though babies would obviously not know to maintain any particular pose. If you have ever seen any of those antique china dolls, like the ones with fancy dresses and stylish hair, I mean the people in the pictures look kind of like this. Would there be any reason why people a long time ago looked like this? Did it have anything to do with the way they were raised, their lifestyle, what they ate/wore/the time in which they were living or anything else?
They looked this way because the cameras that were used back then took up to 15 mintues to take one picture and the people had to sit very still for that long time. Sitting still for 15 minutes is hard and uncomfortable, considering the clothes they wore so they didn't smile and just stared at the camera.

How can I identify my antique doll?
I recently inherited my great grandmothers original baby doll that I believe is from around the 1920's but I know nothing about her. From what I have read she might be bisque but im not sure. Her arms and legs move, her hair feels and looks like human hair. Her eyes are blue and open and close and her eyeybrows and lashes are painted on as well as a few lashes on her eyelids. She's wearing a lace bonnet and pink dress. On her neck are the markings "woodtex NY" Can anyone help me identify her????
Your doll is probably made of composition, which is a mixture of wood pulp and glue. The company is not a common one, I've never heard of them and nothing comes up on a web search except for 1 composition doll marked the same way on an ebay listing from last June, so unfortunately the pictures are gone. I looked through all my doll books and there is no mention of Woodtex in any of them, nor are there any on www.dollreference.com, which has almost every company listed. I suspect that they weren't in the doll making business for very long. My only suggestion would be to go on ebay's doll board and ask there if any of them heard of the company. Be prepared to show a picture. Look on the bright side, at least you know who made her, that's more than I know about alot of my unmarked dolls!
You can look at my dolls to help you determine whether it is composition or bisque.

How do you get mascara off something, like cloth?
I need to know because I was putting on my makeup, and I by accident dropped the brush by the little shelf hanging under the mirror and an antique doll with a white dress was there and I got a spot of mascara on the dress!! Please help me!
If it is important to you spend the $$ and bring it to a professional dry cleaner but bring it soon as you don't want the stain to set.
On the other-hand you may want to try an oil-free eye makeup remover. Mary Kay's makes one.

I have an antique doll I am trying to find information about.?
I believe it was my great-grandmothers. The doll has a wooden body with a porcelain head. She is wearing a pink rather Victorain dress with a peticoat and pantlets (??) under it. Her head is completely porcelain with no wig. Her molded hair has been painted blond with two pink flowers on either side with a blue headband. The are no markings to let me know how old or who made her. Can anyone help?

Anyone know of an old Royal Doulton Doll Called Thursday's Girl"?
I have an old (Antique?) Royal Doulton Doll and I need info on her. Tag says NISBET-Thursday's Girl. Porcelain Face, Soft body, long yellow hair, dressed in a Navy suit (skirt, top and hat). "SS Nisbet" on hat. Made in UK.
Thursday Girl is a 1982 Royal Doulton doll from the Victorian Birthday Collection. Peggy Nisbet is a designer who worked with Royal Doulton on limited edition Kate Greenaway and Victorian Birthday dolls. 5,000 of each doll were made. To determine if yours is genuine, look for the Royal Doulton stamp on the nape of the neck. There also should be a sewn-in label on the clothing reading, "'Royal Doulton & Nisbet made in England". I believe these dolls sell for approximately forty to fifty pounds.
