What is the name of the line of art deco style department store jewelry and hair accessories ?

It was called '1924' or something like that. It was first seen during the early 90's and is still being sold. It is all very art deco - a lot of metal, jewels and such. It was sold on white cards with the art deco style font name in black along the top I believe. They sold jewelry and hair accessories. It was sold at the PX on military bases, too.

There is a brand called 1928 Jewelry, but I'm not sure if that's the one you're looking for.

What exactly made retro jewelry so different from other eras of jewelry?

How is it different from Victorian?
" Art Deco?
" Art Nouveau?

I know a lot about retro jewelry and I know that it emphasized big, bold, and 3D, but what about other eras? Thanks!

Victorian jewerly is more classical and tasteful and used for special touches. Retro jewerly is used to make a statement.

Where can I find affordable reproduction jewelry?

I am specifically looking for art deco and edwardian-style pieces. By affordable, I mean no more than $100 per piece. I would prefer online sites that I can peruse. They do not have to necessarily reproduction pieces, but they do have to be created according to one of the above mentioned styles.

I looooove emitations.com! Lots of sterling silver.

Another good one is ziamond.com, but they are more expensive because they use gold and platinum instead of silver.

I'm anti-diamond, and I have a huge estate style right-hand rock from ziamond that no one can tell is a fake. Everyone drools over it!

Any Good places online to research silver jewelry makers marks?

ok, so I have this lovely victorian era/art deco silver braclet and it has some impressive stamped makers marks on it. I'd like to know, what it is and how much its worth, real quick... I wouldn't sell and will always wear it.
any sites pls :)

Ebay has some tutorials on various identifications for items. Maker's marks for silver jewelry may be one of the topics.

Antique jewelers in Midwest (engagement rings)

I'm located in the Kansas City area and my girlfriend and I are shopping for engagement rings. She wants something that is antique, and we are struggling to find good antique jewelers in the area. We've mostly run across pawn shops and antique stores that have a few pieces of jewelry. We're hoping to find a store that specializes in antique jewelry and has a good selection of antique engagement rings. She likes that art deco/filigree look, and it's tough to find stores that carry it.

We're willing to travel a few hours if necessary, if there is a good store that has lots of antique jewelry. After all, you only get to go through this process one time, so why not have some fun with it?

Does anyone within a few hours of KC know of a good place? If so, any information on the store would be great appreciated.

i had the same problem you are having I did a lot of shopping online to find the ones we liked and called up the store to see where it was at and then drove to see it ( one guy had a friend in my town that had a sore and shipped it to him for me to look at ( didnt buy that one but i did pay for his shipping cost)...i found mine at an estate sale...also call your local dimond broker in KC ( ask a jewler who it is there) and ask him for help...they usually know where to find stuff.

Help me think of Christmas gift...?

It's for my boyfriend, and I am looking to spend about $100.
He is into:
Filmaking, movies, cooking, outdoor activites (hiking, cycling, etc.), music (jazz and also Frank Zappa and Led Zeppelin - stuff like that), he dresses well, but does not wear jewelry, is really into Frank Miller and graphic novels, also likes art deco architecture and design, martial arts, and working out.
He is 27, and works as a videographer and graphic designer.

Help!
He doesn't drink coffee, but likes import beer and good vodkas. He also smokes cigars.

Sometimes on ebay and elsewhere, you can find pieces of filmstrip from different movies - you know what I mean? They cut a few frames of film and mount it between a couple pieces of glass - maybe you could find that from his favorite movie?

Cooking - maybe a nice calphalon pan or le cruset dish? Something high quality.

A gift certificate and gift membership to REI would be neat - then he could buy good outdoor stuff AND earn a dividend - I LOVE my REI membership... it's technically a co-op, so "members" are actually part owners!!!! You get to vote on Directors, etc.

Finally, in terms of the Art Deco stuff, you might find something neat at Restoration Hardware. They have a lot of neat art items and home accessories.

Buy him some Zeppelin bootlegs. They are out there and only modestly difficult to find.

Good luck.
