how do I find out what obsolete currency is worth?
I have discovered in my father's possessions a Brazilian cruzeiros 10000 and I was just wondering what it was worth. The only info I can find out about it is that this particular bill is obsolete but I was told it was still worth something. According to the currency exchange current exchange rates would be $4,672.24.
There are several different 10000 cruziero notes -
The 1965 issue (Santos Dumont portrait) is in the standard catalog as P-182B. Collector value is from $2 to a few hundred, depending on variety and condition. If it is overprinted 10 Cruzieros Novos, catalog number is P-189 or P-190 (different printers), and value is considerably less.
The 1984 issue (Rui Barbosa portrait) is rather common and catalogs for 25 cents to $10, depnding on signatue and condition. If overprinted 10 Cruzados, collector value is $1 or less.
The 1991 issue (V. Brazil portrait) is also very common.
I case you're wondering, face value is zero.
1000 cruzieros (1965) = 1 cruziero novo
1000 cruzieros novo (1986) = 1 cruzado
1000 cruzados (1989) = 1 cruzado novo
1 cruzado novo (1990) = 1 cruziero
1000 cruzieros (1993) = 1 cruziero real
2750 cruzieros real = 1 Real (still current , about US $0.42)

What would happen if the world operated under one form of currency?
What economic impacts (good & bad) would the world encounter if the entire planet operated under one form of currency?
Several (long-shot) assumptions have to be considered... so PLEASE READ before answering:
1. All countries are allies/neutral amongst each other. So no rogue nations or crazy-dictators who oppose the world currency. In other words, all nations have stable governments (doesn't just have to be a democracy - just STABLE).
2. Anti-counterfeiting methods are optimal. This form of currency is 100% counterfeit-proof.
3. The currency is NOT backed by gold any other type of precious metal.
4. All forms of existing currency, such as the dollar, pound, yen, etc are obsolete. Of course persons who owned such had them converted to the new currency fairly.
5. A multi-international "Federal Reserve" monitors the production of the new currency where 12-nation-districts print the currency. This organization operates similar to the Fed in the US.
Since stabilization was already a premise to this question...not a whole lot would change. Counterfeiting is not the only form of foul play so I would imagine we would see plenty of cheating and unfair manipulations. America would still largely control the world interest rate, but international relationships would become very strained due to disagreements over inflation and unemployment. A move away from capitalism would be necessary because as we already know, capitalism only works when there are many different players acting alone, not all trying to act as one.
...I could go on forever.

Cash/Currency...Will it become Obsolete?
Do you believe one day (paper) money & Coin will no longer exist?
Will we all have a numbered card for identity and purchase?
Yes, in the BIble in Revelations, the end times, which are upon us now, the world will be cashless you will not be able to buy or sell anything with out the "mark of the beast" which will be a number on your hand or forehead..they are already in existance now for frequent VIP travelers in airports ..they just have to rund their hands thru scanners..and the goveernment has been gearing us towards that since 1986 ...they've been ready to go on it but can't push it on "the ignorant public all at once, so check it out..atm (machines) the food stamp cards, the cards you load &re load instead of using cash..even have them in
laundromats..the government has been ready to go on this..those who accept that mark on their bodies will receive the full wrath of God..and if you know anything about binary numbers then check out those bar codes you see everywhere..lots of 6's..the Lord's number is 7. There is a book I read Prohpecy, Profit and the coming something (I cna't remember but will getit for you) and it's relative to the future cashless society.

Do you think the US should make a radical change in currency?
I'm not referring to the new bills to prevent counterfitting, but a complete change that would make all current bills obsolete, with a time limit to exchange all our money for new currency.
Would this help ferret out illegal monies, ie drug stashes, etc? We already are monitored for any bank deposit above $10,000.
What do you think? And Why?
It wouldn't work because it would require a mass undertaking that the government is not willing to do. Making all current money obsolete and changing the "face" of currency is a huge ordeal. Not only does it require the government to create the money, it would have implications all the way down the chain!

The penny could be worth up to 5 times more! What happens to the rest of our currency?
The latest news reports discuss the possibilties of pennies worth more than their $.01 value - up to 5 times that! With that in mind - what would become of the nickel? Obsolete? What about the value of the American dollar around the rest of the world? Your thoughts...?
I'm sorry to crush your hopes and dreams, but this is not true of other coins or bills, just pennies. The reason is that pennies are made of copper (or zinc, if they are after 1982), and the metal they are made of is becoming more valuable than the coin. So a 1¢ penny made out of copper might be worth 5¢ if you melted it down and sold the copper. However, all the rest of the coins are made out of nickel, which is not nearly as valuable, so you could not make a profit by melting them down and selling them.
