How can I remove the tarnish from a sterling silver necklace?

I have a sterling silver necklace that has sentimental value to me, but I have not worn it for a long time. It is black with tarnish. Is there any way to remove this and make it shiney silver again using home products?

You used an antibacterial hand wash its from Palmolive and the colour is orange. Put some in your hand and clean the necklace with rubbing the palms together and the hand wash will turn green keep doing that unit the green colour stops and let it air dry.

I just bought a sterling silver necklace and the silver is so bright that it looks too plasticky and fake, do you know how I can make it less shiny?

How can i make my sterling silver necklace shine?

i have an old sterling silver necklace and i want it to shine like brand new but i dont know how.

If you don't want to use any of the commercially available polishes or dips then there's a neat video that I found showing how you can make old sterling silver jewellery shine like new by using baking soda, an aluminium foil dish and hot water.

Basically you put the jewellery into the aluminium foil dish, cover it in baking soda and then add boiling water. Depending on how dirty the piece is you may need to repeat the process.

how to get rid of scratch mark on a sterling silver necklace pendent?

My boyfriend gave me a Tiffany sterling silver necklace and it was turning yellow so i took toothbrush and toothpaste to clean it. It works but then there were alot of scratch marks on it. Can someone tell me how i can get rid of those scratch marks?
do you think i can go to Tiffany and have jeweler buff it to get rid of the scratch marks?

Get a polishing cloth that also has a rouge cloth that removes the scratches. Silver is a very soft metal so you will be able to remove most of the scratches. Or, you can take it to a jewelry store and have them to have the jeweler to buff the scratches out to make it look like new. Get the polishing cloth to keep it looking like new after you have it repaired. Good luck.

Assume that the volume of silver present plus the volume of copper present equals the total volume.

Mass percent of copper = (mass of copper / total mass) x 100

*The answer is 7.0%, but I'd like to know the steps.

actually the mass percentage of sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper

if you have 100 grams of silver there is:
92.5 grams of fine silver ( this is where the 925 which is often used to stamp silver originates from.).
and 7.5 grams of copper.

So I have no idea where you get the 7% from. unless the piece you have is not sterling silver?

What is the best way to make ny old, sterling silver chain necklace look like new again?

I have a really nice, sterling silver chain necklace. Its old, and doesnt have that same shine that it did when I first got it.

is a sterling silver necklace an appropriate gift for christmas for someone you've been dating for four months?

been dating four months...want to get something she would appreciate, but also something appropriate for our brief time together (engagement rings are not being considered right now if ya catch my drift) . I am not sure what is appropriate.

i am considering the James Avery Madrid necklace and matching earrings (women, google it) ..what do you think? Is it any good?

Sterling silver jewelry is a perfect gift for couples that have only been together for a couple of months. It's casual yet meaningful at the same time. I'm not sure if I found the exact necklace that your considering, but the designer's jewelry looks really nice. Good choice.
