How do you refine scrap sterling silver to pure silver?
Scrap is just melted into a bigger lump of sterling silver for reuse.
Separating the other alloys from the silver is a much more complicated job.
Does anyone know where to sell scrap sterling silver in LA ?
Go down to the jewelery centers downtown & they will tell U. It's a few blocks from the Greyhound Station.
anyone know the price for scrap gold? what about sterling silver?
I have lots of scrap 10K and 14K gold as well as some pieces of gold jewelry (rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets) and some sterling silver jewelry. Does anyone know what it's selling for these days? Or would I get more for the pieces if I sell them as pieces, not scrap? I need to make money quick, your answers are appreciated!
The price you will receive will depend on where you have your scrap reclaimed, the amount of scrap you have and the market rate for gold. Remember that you will not receive the spot price for gold in return for your scrap--there are assaying, refining/reclaiming costs that will need to be deducted.
Instead of taking your scrap to a jeweler who would act as a middleman between you and the refiner (and therefore give you a little less than the refiner would give them), go directly through a refiner with a reclamation program. Anyone like a jeweler or the outfits that advertise on TV are actually just offering to act as middlement between you and the refiner for a piece of the pie.
I've used the refiner David H. Fell & Co. in Los Angeles for my scrap recovery and been very pleased with the system they have set up. Click on the link below for contact information; they will send you a kit you can use for submitting your scrap.
Good luck.
where can i sell 100 lbs of scrap sterling silver?
You can try ebay. There are people on ebay that will buy anything. It is one of the biggest marketplaces for selling of goods that have been used before. You could also look for people who sell sterling silver or use it to make things to sell. They are always in need of more materials.

How can I recycle my alloys, sterling silver, (and such) scraps produced from jewelry making?
I'm keeping my bits and pieces separated and labeled.
Can I melt them back down on my stove at home for re-casting?
What can I do to guarantee to future customers that my re-cast metals are genuine?
Are there any recycling facilities I can send my bits to?
Any charities that make use of precious metal scraps?
Any other suggestions to do with my collected bits?
You can certainly remelt them - but please, not on your domestic stove ! You'll need a mini coal-fired furnace, meant for such 'smelting' of metal scrap.
But, upon recasting them, there is no way you can quantify, or guarantee their 'purity' to your customers - as this would require expensive computerised gadgetry which only large jewellery shops can afford.
However, as you would not be [hopefuly !] asking for any fancy 'designer prices' for your artifacts, your customers might give you the benefit of their doubt - and accept your word for it !
Hope this helps !
