I just bought a sterling silver ring from a reptuable place and the ring is turning my finger green?
I just bought a sterling silver ring from a reputable place and my finger is slightly turning green. I don't think I can return it.
The inside says: .925
What's the deal with my ring?
The ring certainly sounds fake. When you say that the inside says .925 is that engraved on the ring or something else? If the place is truly reputable you should be able to return the ring. Hope all goes well!

Can you use a sterling silver ring with cubic zirconia in jewelry cleaner?
I bought a sterling silver ring with a green CZ gem, and I'm wondering if it'd be safe to use it in jewelry cleaner.
It depends on the jewelry cleaner. If it is a sonic cleaner, then yes. However, if the cleaner has soap or detergent in it, then I don't recommend it. This can cloud the cubic zirconia. Your best bet is to purchase a silver polishing cloth to polish the stone and silver.
Will a true sterling silver ring turn your finger green?
I bought a supposed sterling silver ring (Ebay) and it turned my finger green in a matter of 3 hours. I currently wear other sterling silver rings on the same hand (even on the same finger) and they do not have the same effect. They seller tells me it is Sterling. Did he lie?
it should not........check on the inside of the ring and see if it is stamped .929.....that means it is real................some people say at the mall sell real one in with fake ones wich are silver plater copper.........another way to tell is smell it....if it smells like copper or say a penny it is fake
Can you stop a sterling silver ring from turning your skin green?
I bought a sterling silver ring about 2 weeks ago. Ever since like the second or third day, the skin under it has been green, and white in one spot. Now i thought that only happened with fake gold, but i guess not. Anyway, i know its just some kind of reaction btween the metal and the skin, but is there some way to stop it from doing that? I doubt there's any serious problems with it turning my skin colors (i hope), but who wants a green finger? I'd hate to have to stop wearing it, so any help would be appreciated.
yes..you can use clear nail polish.....put it on your gold or sliver jewerly and it will not turn

Why does my Sterling Silver Ring leave a green ring around my finger and what can I do about it?
Born with such a sensitive skin to other alloys in silver and gold jewelry, I started researching on different metals used in jewelry. One of my discoveries is that the "green-ring reaction" has nothing to do with silver jewelry that are "cheap" or not "genuine" silver. Genuine Sterling Silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper (that's why, by law, all genuine Sterling Silver jewelry must be stamped with a 0.925 or 925 somewhere on the piece of jewelry to show its % purity). Jewelers use heat as a method of fusing the alloys together (a process called Soldering). As a result, it can be coated with red Copper Oxide. So they usually soak it in Sodium Bisulphite solution that produces a weak Sulphuric Acid solution. If it doesn't get soaked long enough before polishing, it may still have copper remaining on its surface, which will react with your perspiration to produce a green Copper compound that stains your skin.
You can mix general household Ammonia (main chemical commonly found in Windex and other cleaning products) with water: half Ammonia and half water. Soak your ring in that solution for a day or 2. The Ammonia solution will turn blue as it forms Copper Ammonia ion, which will remove the Copper from the ring. Don't worry, it won't hurt the the silver at all.
You can even get your Sterling Silver ring coated with Rhodium and it will never tarnish.
As for removing the green off of your finger, you can mix some Baking Soda with water, making it into a paste. Coat the green area with this paste mixture and leave it on for about 10 minutes. Depending on how green your finger is, you might need to repeat the process.
If your ring is not coated with Rhodium, it will tarnish through time due to oxidation process when it comes in contact with air and moisture (or perspiration). You can polish it at home this way: a homemade baking-soda mixture solution will bind the tarnish to Aluminum, thereby making the silver clean and shiny again.
Things required:
----baking soda
----glass or plastic dish
----boiling water
----plastic or wood utensil
----absorbent towel
----soft cloth
1. Start boiling just enough water to cover all the jewelry (rings and other silver jewelry in your collection).
2. Line the glass/plastic dish with a piece of aluminum foil.
3. Lay your jewelry on top of the aluminum foil, making sure the silver touches the aluminum.
4. Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda over the jewelry.
5. Pour enough boiling water to immerse all the jewelry. Bubbling will occur, giving off a "rotten-egg odor" (that's because the sulfuric gases are released).
6. With a wood or plastic utensil, move the pieces around to ensure that all of the silver surfaces come in contact with the aluminum foil. As you do this, you will see that the silver brightens again.
7. Rinse the jewelry under tap water. Put a small sieve over the drain to make sure you don't lose small pieces like earrings.
8. Gently wipe the pieces with an absorbent towel and polish with a soft cloth.
What is the approximate cost of a custom made sterling silver ring?
I have this beautiful white gold ring with multicoloured stones in it. It was too big for me and I did take it to a jeweller to make smaller but when I got the ring back, the gold or metal in the ring made it really brittle so the jeweller couldnt fix it up. I was also told that the ring would break eventually.
I want to put the stones into a new sterling silver ring, one that will not break and perhaps change the design in it a little bit.
Any idea how much this may cost?

Why sterling silver? Have them melt down the gold when they make the new wax. Also, for a custom wax, you're looking at around 200 dollars. Anything more than that is a ripoff.
