Coins from the Pyramids in Egypt?

Cleaning out my fathers things, I found some old coins. Within the bag was an envelope which had 2 coins inside and 'coins from the pyramids in Egypt' written on the outside. The coins are barely readable, in fact, one is so bad looking it looks like a copper blob. But it is like the other one in shape - not perfectly round.

Anyone have any input on this? Thanks.
They were with other coins from WWII, I dont know if a tourist shop would have been open then.

No sorry. I was in cairo last month and there is nothing around the pyramids so maybe they came from a tourist shop?

Does anyone know why people throw coins through the grate outside the entrance to the Sphinx in Egypt?

I remember doing it when I visited, and making a wish, but can't seem to find any significance as to why or how this tradition was started.

You are quite right. there is no significance or link with the tossing of money into the grating placed over the entrance to the Sphinx temple attributed to Khafre.the temple was discovered only in the 1920's.
None of the so called "Good Luck" or "Make a Wish" statues,places and oasis', have any connection with ancient Pharonic Egypt.
There is one notable exception,the Sacred Lake at Karnak.
It has been the belief of the local population from the earliest post dynastic times, that wading into this lake would help a women to conceive a child.
Unfortunately these days the practise is banned on health grounds. As the lake is full of a very toxic algae.This is where it gets is brilliant green colour from.
Tossing the coins into the temples covering,
collecting and taking home a vial of Nile water, walking around the well known Lucky Scarab etc is fun but, there is no connection to the wealth of mythology or like beliefs from ancient Egypt.
In Pharonic times the majority these areas would have all been well out of access by the general population.
It is just a way of adding a little modern magic to a country that has an abundance of magic and mythology from the first days of man's civilisation.

i seen this coin in my work today and i kept it aside to find out more about it.

I found a jar of coins from foreign countries my parents collected on their honeymoon. Are they worth anything

As far as I can tell, the coins are from the 40's, 50's, 60's and one from the 70's. I think there are some from Belgum(?), Germany, France (?), Ireland, the Netherlands, Italy, and one bill (1 Riyal) and a coin from Saudi Arabia from the Gulf War era. There's one bill from the Republic of Egypt, and a few coins I brought back from Thailand from about 1990. There's one last mystery coin from "Republik Osterreich" with "Groschen" on the flip side. Aside from the memories, I was wondering if they're worth much monitarily (should I insure them or anything) since the world has changed a lot since the 40's? I suspect some are no longer minted. Does that mean anything?

Not sure on much to do with the value. But to clarify the "mystery coin" is from Austria. At least that is was Osterreich means.

I live in Egypt and I've an old Spanish coin since 1870 how can I sell it in good price?

Do some investigations on your own...look up information on the internet about coin values, or get a book on coin values at the library or a book store. Then talk to a reputable coin dealer. You'll know whether they're reputable or not if you have some idea of what the coin is worth. Check around to see what they say regarding the value.

You have to remember that unless this is an extremely rare coin, not too many people outside of Spain might be interested in it. You would most likely get the most for your money if you put it up for sale on an internet auction website.

Old coins????

I have old coins back to 1937 and 1935 for the Kingdom of Egypt as well as Palestinian coins back to 1927 and 1942. Do you have any idea how can I find out if they worth anything?

There are no good sites for world coin values but eBay is a good place to see what people are willing ot pay.
